I'm not sure how many people have been watching the news, but off the coast of Somalia, which has been without a national government since 1991, there has been a series of Pirate raids, yes Pirate raids, on Oil tankers. The most recent oil tanker captured is 5 times the size of an aircraft carrier and holds $100 million worth of crude oil. Sometimes I watch the news and with all of this craziness with the economy, stock market and the three major car producers going bankrupt, it feels like I am stuck in a bad dream. But, when they start talking about actual pirates on the news, that is where the dream takes a whole different kind of tangent. What is happening in our world??
Crazy but do any of them look like Johnny Depp? can't blame a girl for asking
ReplyDeleteNo Johnny Depps in this bunch. Somalia has no central government, hence young men are easily lured into a way to make a fast buck. These tankers have a very small crew. I think less than 10 so they are easily boarded.
ReplyDeleteI, too, was amazed that a few guys with big guns could take over a huge oil tanker and hold it hostage. There goes the price of gas again - ha, ha!
ReplyDeleteKeith thanks for letting me know there are no Johnny depps. I really am sick about this and it floors me where our world has gone. There is so much evil in such a beautiful place. I must say the whole word Pirate was little strange to hear and it seems really scary to me when you think of the fire power they can get a hold of in today's time.
ReplyDeletealso if you click on the Spokane's blogsphere in your feedjit map it takes you to a ranking of relevant blogs in our area and popular blogs. Both of our blogs are rated today. kind of cool.
ReplyDeletespoke to soon. we were relevant yesterday. we got bumped for today just after I told you to check it out. maybe will be relevant on another day.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how far down our world has gone when you watch the news and how nonchalantly they present a story like hijacking a major supply of crude oil. I guess it just goes to show you how desensitized our society has gotten when things like this no longer solicit an emotional response from those viewing the story.
